Young People's Training Courses 2011-2012

All Courses below are taking place during School breaks - Weekends/Half Term/Easter

All the courses listed below are FREE to all young people living in Hertfordshire.  Where necessary additional support can be given to ensure participation on a course e.g  help with transport routes Pro-Action will re-imburse public transport fares or help look for routes, sign language interpreters. Pro-Action’s courses are delivered by motivated and enthusiastic tutors, and the expectation is that students will also attend sessions with the same outlook! Due to the short time the courses are completed in attendance to all course dates is essential and ensuring that any tasks set are completed!

CRB Checks - To ensure young people are able to work with children's and young people's group Pro-Action will also CRB check each student.  
 

Volunteer Placements - To support all of the courses below, Pro-Action will assist young people in obtaining voluntary placements in the community (you they do not have one) in order to put their skills in practice through registering with V- Involved.

  •  Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership (Sports Leaders) 5X6 hour sessions Age 14-21...more info

     This course aims to teach generic skills such as leadership, organisation, planning, communication and team work through various dance styles such as bhangra, street, musical theatre, salsa, tutting and jazz to name a few. It is a fun and practical qualification which has no entry requirements or exams to sit. In addition to completing the 5 tutor led sessions students must then volunteer with children or young people delivering dance sessions for a minimum of 5 hours to pass the course. 

  • Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership (Sports Leaders) 5x6 hour sessions Age 16-25...more

     This course is aimed at students with a basic sporting ability or in a position of responsibility in their volunteering project with children or young people who wish to develop their sporting leadership skills. The course enables students to practically plan, lead and evaluate session within a safe and inclusive approach.  To complete the course students must complete 15-20 hours volunteering with children or young people through sport as well as completing a 4 hour Emergency Life Support Course (please see Pro-Action’s Children and Young People’s Workforce training programme) .

  • Level 1 Award in Developing Leadership Skills (OCN) 3 day residential Age 14-17...more info

    Through the use of adventurous, problem solving and team building activities this stimulating course develops many personal qualities including listening and conversation skills, social interaction, confidence in group situations and giving and receiving feedback. Students will take part in both theory and hands-on sessions which are an excellent foundation to moving onto the Level 2 Leadership Skills course. In addition to completing the residential course, to complete the qualification students must then complete a reflective diary of 3 situations where they have taken part in group work or team work activities with 2 months of completing the course.

    This practical course focuses in the development of students personal leadership using various adventurous, problem solving, team building and exploratory activities. Students will take part in both theory and hands-on sessions led by our motivated and enthusiastic Peer Tutor team. Students are expected to already be in a volunteering placement or undertaking a lead role in a project. To complete the course students must volunteer with either children or young people for up to 10 hours in an activity of their choice.

    Course Dates – Saturday 25th February 2012 to 21st July 2012.

    Closing date for applications – Friday 6th January 2012.

    Applicants must attend an introduction session on Saturday 11th February 2012 - please see application letter for further details.

    Cost – Price bands range from FREE to £400 per person (please see application letter for details).

    10 x 6 hour sessions over 6 months - Students Aged 16 upwards (no upper age limit).

    This Certificate forms the two parts of a three stage QCF Level 2 qualification. This nationally recognised qualification is aimed at students who wish to gain ‘support worker’ status in youth work and is a stepping stone into a professional career with young people. The aim of the course is to enable students to practically experience youth work principles, how to support positive environments for young people and information, advice and guidance. In addition to attending the tutor led sessions students will need to have started a work based placement with young people prior to the course starting which continues throughout the course duration alongside completing self study tasks.

    Course Dates – Saturday 14th January 2012 to 21st April 2012 + two dates to be confirmed for May and June.

    Applicants must attend an introduction evening (week beginning 9th January 2012) - please see application letter for further details.

    Cost – Price bands range from FREE to £400 per person (please see application letter for details).

    6 x 6 hour sessions over 8 months - Students Aged 16 upwards (no upper age limit). This Award forms the first part of a 3 stage Level 2 qualification. Within this course students will explore the areas of children’s play and playwork and how to support the play process. This course is ideal for those thinking of a career working with children aged 4 to 16 or hoping to gain employment in a playwork setting. In addition to attending the tutor led sessions students will need to have started a work based placement prior to the course starting which continues throughout the course duration alongside self-study tasks.
